Founded in February 2011, East London Furniture make furniture from 100% recycled materials. Realising that there was an abundance of waste materials freely available, founder Christian Dillon started using these to create simple furniture for himself. They gained momentum through the support of Meanwhile Space CIC who provided a workshop space to develop the concept. For nine months East London Furniture operated a popup store and workshop at 151 Hoxton Street, London where they collected materials locally and made all of their products at the workshop in the store. In April 2012, in partnership with the recycling charity LCRN, East LondonFurniture expanded their workshop in an old pickle factory in SE1. Going beyond the normal reclaimed timber yards, all materials used are salvaged from waste, much of it saved from landfill.
