Investigate notions of taste and exaggeration with The Vulgar: Fashion Redefined at Barbican Art Gallery.
Take a journey through the history of fashion, from the Renaissance to the present day, and see how the concept of ‘vulgarity’ translates into different shapes and styles.
Have your say on what makes an outfit vulgar as you wander through an exciting display of historic dresses and contemporary couture by designers such as Christian Dior, Karl Lagerfeld for Chloé and CHANEL, Vivienne Westwood and Jeremy Scott for Moschino.
Curated by exhibition maker Judith Clark and psychoanalyst Adam Phillips, the display looks at the lack of good taste from different points of view, from its manifestations in everyday life to its psychological implications.
